SHIATSU THERAPY

ABOUT SHIATSU
Shiatsu is a natural healing massage based on a form of Japanese physiotherapy that has evolved over many centuries, pressure and touch is used as well as stretching movements, 'energy meridians' and 'points' are treated to restore flexibility, vitality and organ function. Shiatsu works to amplify the body's self-healing energy, called Qi or Chi in oriental tradition, restoring health and well being from within. Receiving Shiatsu is a pleasurable experience and all the body's systems are enhanced including digestion, circulation, lymph, muscles and joints.

ABOUT MARTIN ROGERS (DIP.EASS & DIP.HSEC)
I discovered Shiatsu in 1997, whilst on a Yoga course in Wales. My interest was drawn by the amazing treatment I received from the Yoga teacher who was also a Shiatsu practitioner. I was so inspired, the following year I embarked on a four year training program beginning at the British School of Shiatsu, following through to graduate as a practitioner with the East Anglian School of Shiatsu, complemented with a one year post graduate diploma course at the Healing Shiatsu Education Centre in Hereford. For my personal practice I enjoy working daily with Yoga and meditation. Sincerely, I want people to be well and happy, Shiatsu is a great tool to help achieve that goal.

SHIATSU TREATMENT
Shiatsu is a whole body treatment performed through clothing, so wear loose-fitting items to allow mobility and comfort - track trousers a loose top and socks are ideal, preferably cotton or natural fibre. Prior to your treatment it is best not to eat a large meal. Your first treatment will involve a personal case history which is strictly confidential, to assist the therapist in your treatment.

Shiatsu is normally given on a padded mat or specially designed body cushions at floor level. You may also receive part of your treatment sitting in a chair or on the mat. Each session is adapted to every individual's requirements, so if a client is unable to lie down or has physical disabilities the session can be altered to suit specific needs.

Shiatsu should not be painful, but if pain is felt the client should let the practitioner know straight away. At the end of the session the client remains reclining for a few minutes to enjoy the sense of stillness and wellbeing that the session generates. It is ideal to avoid stressful or strenuous activities for an hour or so in order to enjoy the immediate benefits. The treatments are deeply relaxing and have an overall calming effect, allowing the body's self healing processes to work more effectively.

Contra indications.

Shiatsu is a lovely therapy for pre and post natal conditions, however it is very important to advise the practitioner if you are pregnant, especially in the first trimester as there are certain pressure points that are to be avoided. I have a preference not to treat users of recreational drugs, however there are other practitioners that may do so.

Cancer patients that have completed medical treatment may benefit from the relaxation and rebalancing effects that Shiatsu brings. Pre or whilst undergoing medical treatment Shiatsu may help enhance quality of life, first one should consult ones GP or specialist as to the suitability of Shiatsu for the current condition.
